Vibrant Bo-Kaap

The Bo-Kaap, formerly known as the Malay Quarter, and its adjacent areas constitute the largest concentration of
pre-1850 architecture in Cape Town. Its unique character has long been acknowledged as an asset to the Mother City. With its colourful single and double storeyed houses and its inimitable character, Bo-Kaap has become a favourite for tourists. The area was built between 1790 and 1840, and its architecture is a fusion between Cape Dutch and British Traditions.

I have been capturing Bo-Kaap images since 2005, and have a potfolio of images covering most of the streets, even before the buildings were colourfully painted. My latest images are all in colour, reflecting the colourful and vibrant nature of the Bo-Kaap area today. ‘Wale Street’, ‘Cnr van der Meulen Street & Wale Street’ and ‘Rose Street’ are now available on canvas or as prints in various sizes.

A 1.5m x 450mm framed print of Rose Street (shown below) was recently purchased, together with the iconic ‘Cnr Wale and Chiappini Streets’ by the Harvest Deli and Cafe in Wale Street, Bo-Kaap..

I'm busy with some brand new works centred on my popular images of the Malay Quarter of Bo-Kaap in Cape Town. Here's the first one. It's a detail from buildings in Wale Street. The original has been hand coloured using transparent inks; limited edition prints on paper and prints on stretched blocked canvas will also be available soon.

For more of my works, take a look in the gallery.

Large and Colourful Prints

Last week I was delighted to deliver a large, and I mean large (1520 mm x 470mm) block mounted top quality print of this very popular image of ‘Cnr Chiappini Street and Wale Street. The recipients, Lloyd and Shaun at the Harvest Café and Deli have just the right space for it. And their location: Wale Street, so it’s completely at home!

They have also offered to carry some of my ever-popular Nelson Mandela blocked canvas prints and A4 / A5 size prints on paper of both images. Why not check out this great new eatery when you’re next in town? It’s well worth a visit!

For more of my works, take a look in the gallery.
