I am honoured to have been asked by co-owner and exhibition curator, Marc Alexander, to participate in this wonderful exhibition at the Studio Art Gallery in Simon’s Town, with my original framed portrait of Nelson Mandela. The work was completed in 2002, based on a picture published in a local newspaper, which gave me permission to use their photograph as a reference.

This group exhibition will pay tribute to Nelson Mandela’s peace-loving legacy and the Fish Hoek centenary, by showcasing a collection of paintings, sculpture and some prized collectables of Nelson Mandela, as well as several artworks depicting scenes in and around 100-year-old Fish Hoek.

The opening event is at 6pm on Wednesday 18 July. At 7pm, the same evening, Noordhoek Auctioneers will be conducting a fundraising auction, where patrons will have the opportunity to browse and bid on various items to raise funds for the False Bay Hospital.

Other participating artists include Marc Alexander, Donna McKellar, Craig Ivor, Cliffy Browne, Ray Potter, Trevor Samson, Hubert Barichievy, Richard Shimkus and Tania Lee, so it is really well worth a visit.

The exhibition encloses on 9 August 2018.

At the same time I am running my own tribute to Madiba, by offering A5 prints of the Mandela portrait to people who were born on 18 July. Visit my Facebook page for details.

The Old Town House, Greenmarket Square

The Old Town House was built in Cape Town in 1755 under Governor Rijk Tulbagh as Cape Town’s first public building. Baerendt Artois, a member of the Court of Justice, laid the first stone on this site. This stone can still be viewed in the museum.

Located in the heart of the city on Greenmarket Square, the early Rococo-style building has served as a police station, magistrate’s court, a Burgher Watch House, the Burgher Senate and until 1905, Cape Town’s City Hall.

In 1914 the Old Town House became the city's first art museum when Sir Max Michaelis donated his collection of 17th century Dutch and Flemish art, including masters like Frans Hals, Jacob Ruisdal, Anthony van Dyck and many others.

Today the building serves as a museum, housing fine art, including the Michaelis Collection and various temporary exhibitions. The museum extends its services into the evening and is a popular venue for lectures on culture and chamber-music concerts. The Old Town House also offers its premises for corporate meetings and receptions. The beautiful courtyard is often used for film shoots, wedding photographs and outdoor receptions.

All works are available as high quality prints on non-archival paper or on stretched canvas.
